In the past centuries the town has been trough the events of the Angera’s fief, before passing under the dominance of the Borromeo’s family; the name Ranco, as stated in the Lombard toponomastic dictionary, comes from the verb “rancàr” that means “to knock down and to burn”, in fact, for centuries his territory has been arranged with terraces to grow vineyards. A touristy attraction is the Museum of Transports, an exhibition partly indoors and partly outdoors, where locomotives and other antique vehicles are displayed, perfectly reproduced as they were in the past.
