The territory of Ispra was inhabited since ancient times.
Some recent finds of flint artefacts, suggest remote prehistoric times.
In the bog that stretched beneath the hill of Barza, and between Quassa and Angera, was found in the last century the great prehistoric canoe that is now preserved in the Museum of Isola Bella. In the early years of the twentieth century it has established the special task of production of lime derived from limestone taken from the sides of hills and worked in many existing furnaces. Furnaces now restored and open to visitors.
From the 60 houses the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
Main tourist attraction in Ispra is the long development of the lake.
From the large boulder Cavalasc (Ranco) until the Swamp Draft Brebbia border, the coast is almost entirely viable and long stretches of facilities served by a pedestrian promenade.
An impressive staircase leads directly to the lake from the yard behind the Parish Church.
From the large car park opposite the cemetery, you get to the square of the port down through the park surrounding the monument Castelbarco.
Small marinas, piers and docks also private, are located along the coast.
